2024 Vessel of Hatred expansion left many players feeling that the story abruptly ended, unsatisfied. Lord of Hatred expansion, launching on April 28, 2026, has many eagerly anticipating whether it can surpass its predecessor and do even better. The good news is that it has.

Campaign
Diablo’s cutscenes have always been exceptionally well-done, and Lord of Hatred is no exception. From beginning to end, the intricate plot twists, tragedies, and nuanced character motivations keep players on the edge of their seats. The new expansion fully leverages these strengths, captivating players with its concise and well-paced campaign.
The campaign primarily takes place in the newest region of Sanctuary, Skovos, a Mediterranean-style island and the origin of human history. This new region contains many elements we’ve grown accustomed to from Diablo series.
such as the shockingly high ratio of humans to terrifying monsters, but it also offers refreshing surprises, such as beautiful, unspoiled areas that reflect the ancient land’s survival against the horrific calamities that have befallen the continent over the years.
Furthermore, the region boasts rich diversity, with each location offering a reason to continue exploring and searching for loot. While Skovos doesn’t have as many new Dungeons as other regions, IGGM believes that still worthwhile.
Once you complete the campaign and reach the character level cap, you’ll quickly enter the crucial endgame content. This involves an astonishing number of upgrade mechanics, collecting the necessary materials, and scouring for top-tier gear, meticulously refining every attribute.
At the heart of Diablo experience, Lord of Hatred is the most content-rich and customizable version to date. This means you’ll be dealing with incredibly complex menus, which have only become more cumbersome. But if you’re willing to invest the time to learn everything, you’ll have a truly rewarding Diablo 4 gaming experience.
New Classes
In addition to the new areas mentioned above, Lord of Hatred introduces two very cool classes, Paladin and Warlock, adding new life to the game. The returning Paladin is very similar to Paladin you played in Diablo 2, possessing a wealth of defensive skills and extremely powerful build options, allowing him to effortlessly sweep through everything.
On the other hand, Warlock is a completely new class in the series (not counting Warlock retroactively added in Diablo 2 to celebrate its 30th anniversary), allowing you to wield Hell’s power and offering a wide variety of builds.
Paladin is a pure nostalgic classic, and I’m glad it’s joining the class lineup, but I prefer the new charm of Warlock, especially its rich gameplay. You can choose from four different specializations or mix and match them to create unexpected gameplay.

Skill Trees
In Lord of Hatred, besides the addition of two new skill trees, the existing six skill trees have been completely reworked. These changes mainly focus on one point: they are no longer simply stacking up passive skills (such as increasing damage or survivability), but allowing players to make more meaningful choices.
For example, in Sorceress skill tree, if ice effects suit you better, or better fit your build, you can now choose to change your water or fire serpent into an ice serpent.
These changes are truly fantastic. They free you from the tedious grind of passive leveling up and make your character more unique, ensuring you don’t feel out-of-place even when playing with other players of the same class.
Besides these changes, IGGM believes the skill tree still has room for simplification. For example, the skill point cap has been increased from 5 to 15. After selecting your basic skills and adjusting them to your liking, the remaining time during leveling up is essentially spent deciding which skills to allocate points to, which is very similar to the previous skill tree – a lot of tedious choices.
Overall, however, I like these changes, especially the addition of more meaningful ways to enhance the freedom of skill customization. I hope the developers can delve deeper into this area.
Talisman System
The newly added Talisman system further enhances the game’s complexity, and it took me a while to understand the mechanic. It allows players to collect Magical Runes and add them to a separate equipment configuration menu.
In reality, this is a clever way to offer set bonuses that are usually only available for specific Diablo 4 gear sets, but here you can use any equipment you want, and Talismans themselves have independent attributes.
IGGM believes that freeing you from dependence on specific gear sets is indeed a very wise move and a great addition. I’m glad they exist, especially since they give me another way to improve my attributes. It allows you to extract more value from the gear you painstakingly farmed before.
